After enduring torrential rains that caused flooding across areas in the city, Los Angeles is now seeing unseasonably high temperatures for late February.

All-Time High Readings

By Friday afternoon, the temperature soared to 91°F (33°C) in central LA, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was 88°F (31°C) and was established in 2025.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on forecast graphics for the region.

Public Health Warnings

Authorities issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their advice featured:

• Staying hydrated.
• Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
• Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.

A Sharp Reversal

This sharp rise in mercury arrives just after a massive storm system that battered the region recently. That event delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to the mountains, causing mudslide risks for countless residents.

Sadly, the storm also resulted in a large avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.

Weekend Outlook

Forecasters predict some relief is expected. Readings were forecast to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by late Friday.

Additional areas that reached ninety degrees were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to see the upper eighties.

For the weekend, central Los Angeles can see readings in the eighties, with a further cooldown on tap for the start of March.
