Igor Jesus found the net on two occasions as the Premier League side rounded off the league phase of the European competition with a convincing win against their Hungarian visitors at the home stadium.

The hosts had previously guaranteed a place in the knockout round play-offs and entered this game with a slim possibility of making the top eight, although they needed other matches to fall in their favor.

That did not happen but this confident performance will give the supporters confidence that their side can navigate the two-legged play-off to advance to the last 16.

A Ferencvaros midfielder did hit the post with a headed effort inside the opening stages for the visitors – who are managed by ex-Premier League forward Robbie Keane – but it was all Forest from then on.

Forest broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Ryan Yates' cross was deflected in by the defender and added a second four minutes later – Jesus firing an effort in at the far post for his 10th goal of the campaign.

The forward's eleventh goal came early in the second half when he made a perfectly-timed run to break clear of the defence and then drive an effort past the goalkeeper.

That goal killed off Ferencvaros' hopes of mounting a recovery and instead the hosts added a fourth when the excellent James McAtee scored from a penalty after a infringement by the hapless Bence Otvos inside the box on the winger.

The Europa League qualifying round draw is scheduled on the final Friday of January (12:00 GMT), where Nottingham Forest might face either Fenerbahce or the Greek club.

"It's more than the scoreline, there was that atmosphere about it. I want these players to do collectively well, the whole squad," said Forest boss Sean Dyche.

"This is another stride forward, but it is a positive one."

Forest Analysis: Striker Shines as New Signing Watches On

Jesus has been a revelation for Forest in European competition this term with six of his 11 goals scored in the Europa League.

This double also means he has got a trio of strikes in his previous two outings and the threat of competition for his place in attack could be spurring him on.

Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca was recently brought in temporarily and he was observing this game from the stands.

That may well have been on the striker's thoughts as he was outstanding against Ferencvaros, delivering two excellent goals and generally being a constant threat to the visitors' defence with his speed and runs.

Jesus was not alone in catching the eye, with McAtee turning in his finest display in a Nottingham Forest shirt since joining from Manchester City in the previous transfer window, while Dan Ndoye also performed well.

These encouraging performances will give the club some fresh hope as they turn their attention to pulling further away from the bottom three when they host their London rivals on the weekend.

"All you can ask for is a response," continued Dyche.

"I've never questioned their work ethic or their loyalty or honesty. It is just about displaying your ability.

"James was very good and Dan was super sharp. Igor got another couple and these are good signs."
