š Share this article D.Va's Thrusters Establish Her as the Ultimate Flying Tank For a long time, I was not a fan of online competitive titles. I engaged in numerous of them with companions, but few held my interest. My aim was poor, and seemed more a liability than help to my teammates. Subsequently, 2016ās Overwatch happened and presented me with a character and an ability that's been stuck in my mind ever since. At first glance, D.Va, an esports star turned pilot who commands a MEKA, didnāt seem the type that should have appealed to me. The sniper Widowmaker was closer to my preference, with her dark aesthetic and measured speech. However D.Va possessed the advantage of being my favorite class: a tank. The one who soaks up all that incoming fire while protecting damage-dealers and healers. Better yet, D.Va has dual modes: her out-of-mech state, in which she moves with a blaster, and her MEKA configuration, in which sheās strapped into her MEKA. This duality make her pretty unique, but thereās something else that sets her apart among other defenders, and is why I ultimately adored her: her melee and movement ability, Thrusters. Boosters is an ability that lets D.Va (in her MEKA form) propel skyward, providing a velocity increase and allowing her to fly forward for a set distance. But you can also change directions mid-flight, opting to rise onto a higher level or veer entirely and head around obstacles like turns or the payload. This grants D.Va a agility and unrestricted motion that no other defender can really replicate ā including Reinhardt with his forward assault. D.Vaās Boosters is ideal for my approach: I like to soak up the damage and protect my team, while having the option to retreat if the situation intensifies so I may reassemble ā it makes me feel indestructible, even though this isn't entirely true. D.Vaās Boosters is not just for movility; it also inflicts harm to foes in its path. An offensive component exists to D.Vaās Boosters ability. If enemies get in the way as youāre using Boosters, they are knocked back for 25 damage. I assure you, thereās nothing more satisfying than finishing off a pesky Ashe by bopping her on the nose with your MEKA. That serves as a lesson to try and snipe you from afar. The hero might not rank as the ābestā tank in Overwatch 2 currently, particularly with characters like Orisa and Ramattra whose raw defensive abilities make them a superior choice for the current meta. But sheās also one of the most unique characters I have experienced in a competitive title. It seems unlikely there really is a direct counterpart to D.Va, and trust me, after playing games like Marvel Rivals since leaving Overwatch 2, Iāve been looking for my next D.Va, and a similar mobility skill, for years. In reality, with extensive time as her, it seems no future tank character as fun and innovative to play as she is. For all the faults Overwatch 2 might have, character design and abilities are certainly not among them. The MEKA Pilot excels in mobility and disruption. Her Boosters provide unmatched aerial control. The hero can absorb attacks while opening chances for her team. Despite meta shifts, she remains a beloved choice for distinctive approach.
